Whatchu Gonna Do With All That… Time?

We’ve all been talking about how important mental health is and how we need to take time off to recharge. Burnout is real, and the stress of work and post-pandemic life is real. But, are we really doing what we are preaching? The results of 164 voters for the December “People on the Street” poll are in…

So, there you have it. Only 16% of us are completely unplugging, with 55% doing some real form of work, whether it’s installations, standard support (we don’t all close over the break), playing project catch-up, and other miscellaneous tasks. Not surprisingly, 26% say they check-in, do emails, or monitor their Slack/Teams while “off.”
We know the nature of our work is that we can only do projects when campus is empty. But then, when do we get to take care of ourselves? I know some will take time off during the semester to vacation, but does that count? Does it count as time off when you come back to 400+ emails and more work to catch up on?
We don’t know the solution, be we do know that your health and family are important. Our holiday prayer is for you all to find the time to prioritize. The work will always be there, but the memories with family and friends won’t. Happy Holidays, Higher Ed AV peeps!
