People on the Street, Presented by Crestron: “What are your summer install plans?”

People on the Street, Presented by Crestron:
“What are your summer install plans?”

BC Hatchett, Vanderbilt University: I’m going to be looking pictures of past installs and remembering the good old days when you could get equipment in on time.

Chris Dechter, University of Wyoming: 2022: The Summer of Deferred Maintenance.

Craig Shibley, California Baptist University: My people on the street, and it coincides with my checkmyav article; My summer to do list is to go over all of the rushed COVID-related projects of the last two summers. Go over bandages with permanent fixes and make all installs aesthetically pleasing.

Dwayne Smith, Old Dominion University: Summer plans – Life cycle classroom technology is about 30 classrooms (we are going to do this in-house to save money), We have a few capital projects coming this summer which will be pretty crazy with the equipment shortage. Have already set aside older DMPS units to help get those projects going since we won’t have the new ones here in time. It’s very hard to believe that summer is just about a month away.

Greg Carstens, University of Colorado, Boulder: All over the place due the supply issues.  We’ve postponed several lecture halls because stuff will not be here in time.  We are having planning conversations now about winter & spring break and even looking at summer 2023 already.

James Gross, Virginia Commonwealth University: Planning stages here at VCU and waiting on budgetary approvals. IF approved then we will start to worry about availabilities and lead times from vendors to our contractor. We are hoping for Fall or Winter break for most of it but may have to wait until summer of ’23.

James King, University of Nevada, Las Vegas: My summer plans is to take on a new challenge by moving cross country and starting a new #highered job..

Joe Way, University of Southern California: We’re going to kick the can down the road, enjoy summer with our families, and a freaking great time at #InfoComm22!

Johanna Pierson: Wentworth Institute of Technology: I’m waiting to see if they cut my FY2023 budget! Can’t make summer plans until July, which means I’ll be making winter plans.

John Cheatham, University of North Georgia: For me, summer plans are getting our new College of Business Building completely installed prior to fall semester, as well as any other smaller projects that could be done as rooms are available throughout our campuses. … When you cut the POs in December and February, you hope you can get stuff by July! Also, stock on hand helps as a backup plan.

Kevin Hartman, University at Buffalo: My summer install plans include waiting for winter break so they can be done.

Megan Lackman, Sacred Heart University: Summer Plans are to refresh 30 spaces in house looking like I’m getting all gear by June so still on track. Working with an integrator for another 10 classrooms on a construction project not many supply issues still on track for July turnover. Working with a consultant land our construction team on our new hockey arena and probably will have a few more smaller projects pop up as well.

Michael Korinko: Montclaire State University: We have only 3 or 4 rooms that we are upgrading and orders were placed over a month ago.  I am now getting word that most Crestron products are not scheduled to ship until September so I have to see what equipment we can come up with from our hot swap stock in order to get the systems functional before the start of the semester.

Mike Pedersen, Iowa State University: We are still planning full technology upgrades in 36 Classrooms – 25 in-house and 11 with contractors.  So far delivery dates seem holding…

Robb Mann, University of North Carolina, Wilmington: We’re converting a building over to AVoIP, and are doing 95% of the work in-house.  We’re also upgrading about 20 rooms to have cameras and mics in them for conducting hyflex classes; we’re handling the design/ordering/programming/configuring portion, but have the installation contracted out.  We’re also finishing construction on and commissioning a new Coastal Engineering Building (we did everything except the physical install, which has been contracted out).

Thomas Love, Ozarks Technical Community College: My summer plans as of the current moment… Keeping an eye on the AV contractors for the new building going on line and doing a few minor installs in the new building.  Possibly upgrading 248 rooms with new audio and control systems providing all the parts show up. … I currently writing the install directions for everything except the programming so I can commandeer other people from within the IT department to help do the installs.

Troy Powers, Northwestern University: We’ve got a few installs planned with gear on hand. We have a few more that gear might come in for. At this point we don’t do installs ourselves, so it’ll be all vendors. I believe avispl is doing most of the work this year.

Walter Ries, University of Arizona: We are having AVI-SPL refresh the technology in 14 collaborative classrooms, that we did not get a chance to do during the spring semester.  My team will be doing 13 room upgrades including 7 conversions to collaborative rooms.
