2021-06 People on the Street

Now that we’re starting to gather in person again (or at least it’s on the horizon), what are you most looking forward to doing both personally and professionally?

Aaron Peterson

Mechdyne

My biggest thing is live events: live theater, live concerts, comedians, in-person conferences. Too many of those were canceled, and I miss going to them!

Kim Franklin

Listen Technologies

Professionally, I never imagined I would miss tradeshows, but I am looking forward to tradeshows and events, there is so much positive energy and excitement at in-person events that you can’t duplicate virtually. Personally, the list is long… I am most looking forward to global travel, especially enjoying a cappuccino in Europe.

I miss you all. Every one of you. I have always attended events for the personal relationship building and not technology, but moving forward, I will never take our in-person time together for granted. I am looking forward to enjoying an adult beverage with you all when we can finally meet up again. Let’s cherish this opportunity to re-engage. It’s a new beginning.

Personally, I am really looking forward to live concerts! Something about singing along at the top of your lungs with 20 thousand like-minded super fans is magical and for some reason, my kids are not impressed with me trying to duplicate that feeling while watching YouTube at home. Professionally, I am so excited to finally begin meeting with partners and customers face to face to work together to solve communication challenges. Thanks for the memories Zoom, but let’s get the show on the road!

In-person conferences. Virtual conferences have been necessary, but just like how hybrid classes can’t deliver the same experiences as in-person active learning classes, conferences are similar. There is something about being there. Personally, we need a real vacation.

Jimmie Singleton

University of Southern California

Personally, I am PUMPED to see some live music again and travel. Professionally, I am excited to attend a lot more vendor-paid lunches. Also, conferences are cool, but the meals at those conferences sheeeesh.

July 2021’s Question:

For many in higher ed, the past eighteen months has been one long summer upgrade. Is there anything you’re doing this summer to prepare for a full (or mostly full) return to in-person classes for the fall semester?
