HETMA Virtual Conference 2025 Alphabet Soup Day 1
We heated up the day with the State of HETMA address lead by Joe Way and published as a Higher Ed AV podcast. Joe talked to many current board members about where we were and where we are going. I will let you watch the recording to get all the fun and flashy details, but the conversation focused on our membership! Both sponsors and AV Managers make HETMA what it is, and we will grow in the direction that our membership takes us. Ryan Gray, holding the 2-Year at Large position, summed it up with, “As we grow global, we push local!” Erin Maher-Moran, Chair, looked toward the future with “Connection made!” The session concluded with the announcement of Troy Powers of Northwestern University ascending to the role of HETMA Vice-Chair with the unanimous consent of the Board of Directors.
The chat started boiling during Kameesha Jones; “Designing classrooms with ADA compliance” with Frank Kolavo and Chris Kolavo on deck. ADA is on everyone’s minds as we saw some ways that Computer Comforts is helping to address the needs for ADA while improving the environment everyone.
The chat boiled over during lunch, continuing the conversation about ADA. Woah! Hot topic!
We stirred the pot for Ryan Gray’s “PTZ Cameras – Now with more Cowbell!” Which proved to be difficult to have cowbell over zoom, Thanks noise suppression! James McGookey from Indiana University, Gaurav Bradoo from Logitech, Josh Joseph from TekVox, Drew Butress from Sony all contributed to the conversation. The future of intelligent camera technology was examined from multiple angles and we got insight into both the current state of this technology and the future of where it is going. It was refreshing to have the focus on how this technology impacts student experience instead of just taking about specs and features.
HDMI, SDI, DP, NAV, NVX, AVoIP, IPMX, NDI, BYOD! Can we add more alphabet to this soup?! CRTL+ALT+Create, moderated by Craig Underwood featured a savory panel. If you watch one recording from the conference, let this be it! (but really, watch them all!) Holly Clausen, from AVI-SPL, sees cloud management as an unavoidable future for extended warranties that is also sustainable. Joesph Frotton, from Extron, mentioned the pressure to develop interoperable standards for product development. Steve Greenblat from Control Concepts is a veteran to making everything work together and Matthew Pomeroy, from Crestron, touched on BOYD technologies.
The end of the agenda is never the end of the day! Networking continued for another 4 hours and the opportunity to talk about tech, talk about ideas and get to know each other remains a highlight of the conference.
Can’t wait to see what we cook up tomorrow!
