Collaboration will help higher education institutions share learning-space ideas, expertise, and real-world experience.
LAKE FOREST, Calif. — October 19, 2026 — The Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance (HETMA) announces a partnership with Talem3 to advance FLEXspace, the Flexible Learning Environments eXchange. The initiative will build on FLEXspace’s established role as a resource for sharing learning-space knowledge and connecting the people who plan, design, support, and improve those spaces.
The partnership brings together HETMA’s higher education technology community, FLEXspace’s interdisciplinary foundation, and Talem3’s experience in learning-space management. Together, they aim to make the knowledge institutions contribute easier to find, share, and apply to campus decisions.
“Some of the most valuable expertise in higher education lives within the teams doing this work every day,” said John Pfeffer, chair of HETMA’s FLEXspace Advisory Committee. “Through this partnership, we want to help institutions share that experience more effectively and give their colleagues a stronger starting point for improving learning spaces.”
The initiative will build on FLEXspace’s role as a place to showcase completed projects and strengthen the connection between inspiration and implementation. Institutions will be able to share the thinking behind their spaces, the needs those spaces are designed to meet, and the lessons learned through everyday use.
That knowledge is especially valuable as institutions respond to changing teaching practices, accessibility needs, increasingly complex technology, and long-term sustainability goals. A learning space’s value depends not only on how it looks, but on how well it supports students and faculty—and how effectively an institution can operate and maintain it.
“Learning spaces are living environments that continue to evolve after opening day,” said Frank Rosa, Co-Founder, Talem3. “We are excited to work with HETMA and the FLEXspace community to help make institutional knowledge more useful to the people responsible for those environments.”
The partnership builds on the contributions of educators, technology professionals, designers, facilities planners, and institutional partners who have shaped FLEXspace. Their experience will remain central to its next chapter.
“HETMA’s mission has always been about connecting the people who do the hard work of higher education technology, and FLEXspace is a natural extension of that commitment,” said Erin Maher-Moran, HETMA co-chair. “We know how valuable it is to learn from a colleague who has already solved a similar problem. This partnership with Talem3 gives us a chance to make that kind of shared learning easier to find and apply—so institutions can build better spaces for students and faculty without reinventing the wheel. I’m grateful to Talem3 for helping us carry this work forward.”
The official FLEXspace relaunch is planned for the coming months. To learn more, visit flexspace.org and hetma.org.
