HETMA Joins Media & Learning Association as Networking Member
New membership expands opportunities for global collaboration around audiovisual technology, learning spaces, and emerging educational media
Lake Forest, CA The Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance announced that it has joined the Media & Learning Association as a networking member, expanding HETMA’s connection to an international community focused on advancing the use of media and digital technologies in teaching and learning.
The Media & Learning Association brings together institutions, organizations, agencies, and networks committed to maximizing the benefits of media for learning across formal and informal education. Its work includes conferences, webinars, workshops, Special Interest Groups, collaborative projects, research, policy insight, the MEDEA Awards, and news and information services supporting more than 10,000 monthly newsletter subscribers.
For HETMA, the new networking membership creates a meaningful opportunity to connect the practical experience of higher education audiovisual and technology managers with a broader international conversation about media rich learning, collaborative spaces, extended reality, artificial intelligence, digital media literacy, and the evolving role of technology in education.
“HETMA is proud to join the Media & Learning Association as a networking member. Their Special Interest Groups reflect many of the same priorities we champion in higher education AV, from collaborative learning spaces to emerging technologies. The alignment between our communities creates a natural opportunity to share insight, elevate best practices, and strengthen the global conversation around teaching and learning through technology,” said Troy Powers, Vice Chair of HETMA.
As a networking member, HETMA joins a category of organizations active in related areas of interest that share Media & Learning’s focus on collaboration, information sharing, and educational community building. The relationship will allow both communities to exchange ideas, amplify relevant work, and explore shared priorities across higher education technology, media production, learning environments, and instructional innovation.
The announcement also reflects HETMA’s continued growth as a global voice for higher education technology professionals. Founded by Joe Way of UCLA and BC Hatchett of Vanderbilt University, HETMA represents the professionals who design, implement, support, and manage the audiovisual and educational technologies that make modern learning possible on campuses around the world.
Through programs including the HEX Microcredentialing Program, monthly educational sessions, an annual virtual conference, regional roadshow events, FLEXspace, HETMA Approved, scholarship initiatives, and an active online community, HETMA continues to support professional development, peer collaboration, and advocacy for the higher education AV and technology management community.
