HEAV/HETMA Spotlight: HETMA Committees

HETMA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit advocacy organization for higher-education end users in the AV industry. Like most non-profits, we rely on passionate volunteers to achieve our goals of connecting great people, providing professional development opportunities to our members, and supporting technology managers in the higher education vertical. As HETMA continues to grow, you might wonder how all of the work is getting done. Below you’ll find a description of our committees, and how YOU can get involved in this thriving organization!

Communications

Britt Yenser

The HETMA Communications Committee is responsible for keeping people in the know. HETMA is a busy, thriving community and the Communications Committee makes sure people know about events, breaking news, and our incredible people! With the recent acquisition of Higher Ed AV Media, the Communications Committee will also play a role in helping with that valuable content. If you’re into newsletters, gifs, memes, and however people communicate these days, please reach out to communications@hetma.org

DEI and Prism Scholarship

Natalie Gillespie

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee strives to ensure that HETMA is a safe, welcoming, worthwhile place for all. We proactively work to recruit and uplift more underrepresented people in the AV industry.  As part of this, we administer the Prism scholarship to make it easier for underrepresented folks to become CTS certified and connected with the wider AV community.  Because environmental destruction impacts disempowered folks more, we also champion sustainability in the AV industry. For more information or to get involved, contact us at dei@hetma.org or join the DEI & Prism Scholarship channel at HETMA.org.

Education

Christopher Dechter

We’re all about education!  And you can be, too!  The Education Committee (aka the BEST Committee) is responsible for internal and external training resources, the periodic Lunch & Learn series, the HETMA Education Summit at InfoComm, and more. There’s even cool, secret things we can’t tell you about until you join us!  If you want to get involved, request access via the left-side menu on the HETMA Community.  And bring a dessert to share.

HETMA Approved Program

Donovan Monday and Dustin Myers

The HETMA Approved Program will provide a resource for AV/IT professionals in higher education to make informed decisions about products and services vetted by their peers in the AV/IT community. A HETMA Approved designation means the product or service has been tested and deployed, meeting the standards that HETMA members have set. This column will highlight the process of evaluation and the products that have been approved. approvedprogram@hetma.org

Membership

Craig Underwood

The Membership Committee aims to grow the community’s membership (of course!) and, just as  important, maximize our members’ engagement with all the resources and initiatives that HETMA offers. We always need help reaching out to potential new members and encouraging existing members to participate in, and benefit from, the fantastic initiatives already in place and help build those yet to come. Contact us at membership@hetma.org today!

Sponsorship

Jon Hamilton

We work with companies letting them know about the different sponsorship opportunities available through HETMA. This involves a lot of communication between company leadership, marketing, and sales organizations. If you are ever meeting with someone that has any desire to be part of supporting this great organization please get them in touch at sponsorship@hetma.org

Many hands make light work, and we would love for you to be involved in the HETMA community. If you are interested in working with any of the HETMA committees, please contact the Committee Chair as directed in their blurb. This is a very exciting time for HETMA, and you can bring your skills and passion to our organization!
