Prism Scholarship Program Recognized for Advancing Diversity in Audiovisual Industry
LAKE FOREST, Calif. , March 12, 2026 – The Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance (HETMA) is proud to announce it has been honored with the AV Awards – Americas 2025 award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in AV. The award recognizes HETMA’s Prism Scholarship Program for its exceptional commitment to creating equitable opportunities and fostering diversity within the audiovisual and educational technology industry.
The AV Awards, presented by AV Magazine, celebrate excellence and innovation across the audiovisual industry, honoring organizations and individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement in their respective categories. HETMA’s recognition in the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion category underscores the organization’s dedication to building a more inclusive professional community for higher education technology managers worldwide.
“We are absolutely thrilled and deeply honored to receive this recognition,” said Erin Maher-Moran, Chair of HETMA’s Board of Directors. “The Prism Scholarship Program represents our commitment to ensuring that everyone who is passionate about educational technology has access to the professional development, networking, and resources they need to thrive in this field. This award validates the intentional work we’ve been doing to create pathways for underrepresented voices in higher education technology.”
About the Prism Scholarship Program
HETMA’s Prism Scholarship Program was created to break down financial barriers that prevent professionals from underrepresented communities from accessing educational programming, conferences, and networking opportunities. The scholarship covers the fee to take the AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) Exam, a year of Elite AVIXA membership, a CTS study guide, a trip to InfoComm, a HETMA mentor, and professional development resources.
Through the Prism Scholarship Program, HETMA has:
- Provided access to professional development for dozens of emerging technology professionals
- Created mentorship opportunities connecting scholarship recipients with established leaders
- Fostered a more diverse and inclusive community within higher education technology management
- Amplified underrepresented voices in industry conversations and decision-making
“In today’s global climate, HETMA remains unwavering in its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said Kameesha Jones, Chair of HETMA’s DEI Committee. “Programs like the Prism Scholarship reinforce those principles by ensuring members of our DEI community feel seen, valued, and empowered building the confidence necessary to thrive and excel within the AV industry.”
The Prism Scholarship Program is overseen by HETMA’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and funded through the annual HETMA Golf Classic, sponsorships, and organizational support. Applications are accepted starting in winter and awarded in spring, annually.
